Do You Know Your Earthly Father As Well As Your Heavenly Father
I can honestly say I don’t know my earthly father that well. I know who he is, but we don’t have much of a relationship.
My earthly father had been in my life for as long as I could remember but I didn’t know he was my father. Although I asked who my dad was I never got a clear answer. Being blind, some sighted people can get away with so much. Just because we are blind we aren’t stupid.
In this blog post I will apologize in advance for what your about to read. I will be getting to the nitty gritty of all of this post. So hang on for the ride and stick around while I show you a part of my life.
My fathers’ name is Steve Beck and I have known him all my life. I just didn’t know him as my dad. He is one of my uncles best friends. They ran around quite a bit and I saw him quite offten. Although I haven’t seen him in years but I know where he lives.
The last time I seen my dad I was 19 years old. I had just graduated from high school and I was living with my aunt.
We were walking back from the store and my dad walked us home. My dad lived in the same neighborhood but I always knew him as a friend of the family. So we always called him Steve.
I can remember it like it was yesterday. I found out who my father is. It happened to be Fathers’ Day of 1997.
Let me give you a little history on how I found out this information. I was still married and my oldest daughter was about 8 months old. I had been trying to get my last name legally changed to my married name. Well I had a little trouble getting it changed.
The reason why I had so much trouble getting my name changed is because when I filled out the paper work at the Social Security office, I always left my fathers’ name blank on the form because I didn’t know who he was and you have to fill out all the blanks on the form.
Since I didn’t fill in all the spaces the form was not completed and therefore the process was not finished.
I had a very nice lady who was helping me with the paper work and I had been there several times before we finally got the form correctly filled out.
This is where the Lord intervened on my behalf. The lady was able to print out a copy of my record from when it was first applied for in 1973. I prayed she didn’t get into any trouble for doing this for me.
She was able to fill the form out and I received my new Social Security card 10 days later.
I took the print out home and left it in my daughters’ diaper bag for over a month. I happened to be cleaning out the diaper bag and I told my husband here is the paperwork from the Social Security office. My husband looked at the paper work before we filed it away with the important papers.
My husband read it to me and I was shocked to find out who my dad is.
Being shocked was an under statement. I was quite hurt and angry. This man was in my life all this time. I vowed to get to the bottom of all of this mess.
I don’t want to bash sighted people but there are some who can be so cruel to blind people.
Just because we cannot see what is going on doesn’t mean we don’t know. We aren’t stupid people at all. Sometimes we pick up on things faster than you know.
The first person I asked was my Aunt. My Aunt was always good to me. I lived with her off and on while I was starting to lose my vision.
I did not sleep very well that night and I called my Aunt very early the next morning.
I just got to the point. I asked her, how many Steve Becks do you know? She told me just one and she asked me why was I asking.
So I told her that I found out some information about Steve.
Of course she wanted to know what I found out. I told I had found out he is my dad.
My Aunt told me that she thought my mom had been told me. I told my Aunt this was the first I had heard of this news. So I realized that this was a secret in the family.
I just don’t understand why the secrecy.
I did ask my Mother and she got nervous when I showed her the paper work. So she knew all the time and did not tell me. My mother was 14 when I was born. My dad was 12 when I was born. That doesn’t excuse what they did but they should have told me years ago. I was 24 years old when I found out this information. Since this is all out in the open, the Lord has given me the strength to forgive all. I love my parents and don’t understand the things they did but they are my parents.
Just think if I hadn’t gotten married I wouldn’t know about my dad. I count that as a blessing to find out information that I had been searching for all these years.
I know my Heavenly Father quite well and he will never leave me or forsake me. I realize how good I actually have it, my Heavenly Father has been with me from the beginning.
My Heavenly Father has known me before I knew him.
I met my Heavenly Father on Sept 13 1987. I knew then and there everything was going to be just fine. No more facing life alone. He has walked by my side everyday since then.
I am also reminded of a verse found in the bible. You can find it in Jeremiah 1-5
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
My Heavenly Father knew me and I knew him not. He has loved me and protected me in spite of all I have done in my life.
He has showed me mercy and grace when I didn’t even deserve it all. This is what I say unconditional love is. Also if you want to know about this unconditional love, pray this prayer with me and you will never be alone.
Dear Jesus, I know I’m a sinner and would be lost in hell without You. Please forgive me for my sins and come into my life. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and that God, Your Father, raised You from the dead. Thank You, Jesus, for giving me Your free gift of eternal life. Amen.
So if your earthly father is still with you cherish the relationship you have with him.
Also if you prayed this prayer with me you have just met your Heavenly Father and he will be with you always!
Until next time, as much as I love you Jesus loves you even more!
